How To Make A Gravity Bong Using Basic Household Items

Emery

There is a lot of information on the internet about making homemade gravity bongs. While they are great, they’re not very practical if you want to keep the cost down and make them yourself.

This is also an excellent example of just how simple it can be to make a bong at home. The best part is that this gravity bong will last forever unlike most bongs out there which are made from cheap materials or flimsy tubing.

What you need

  • A large glass jar with lid (I used a 12oz mason jar)
  • Coffee filter paper (coffee filters work too)
  • Bowls/containers of various sizes
  • Plastic wrap
  • Towel
  • Large rubber band
  • Gravity bong tube
  • Water pipe stem wick (optional)

You also need some type of bowl for your bong. The size will depend upon what kind of material you choose to use. We chose to use a large coffee filter as our bowl.

To start off, take a piece of plastic wrap and place it over the top of your jar. Next, measure out 5 inches in length (or however long you like) and cut it so that it covers the entire top of the jar. Do not worry about creating a perfect square shape; the sides of the jar will cover it up. Place this inside the jar and fold it back over itself. You should now have a nice tight seal between the two pieces of plastic, but don’t worry if it doesn’t quite fit perfectly. Just leave a small gap at one end so that moisture can escape.

Next, take the towel and place it under the large glass jar so that it forms a tent around the bottom of the jar. Wrap the towel tightly around the base of the jar so that it forms a little bowl for all of your smoke to fall into.

Take your plastic wrap and put it on the side of the jar nearest the towel. Take the towel and pull it away from the jar slightly so that you create a space where fluid can flow out of the jar. It helps to do this quickly, because the water will start to run down the plastic wrap before you know it. Once you’ve done this a few times, you will have created a small waterfall that will allow you to drain the water out of the jar easily. Repeat these steps until the jar is completely dry.

Now that everything has dried thoroughly, it’s time to get started!

First thing that you will need to do is remove the plastic wrap and the towel. If you haven’t already, cut a hole in the middle of your filter paper. You can either use scissors or a knife to make the hole. Now, take your funnel and place it inside the hole. The funnel should fit snugly, but not so much that it cuts off the air supply. Fill your funnel with liquid and then slowly pour it into the water-filled bowl.

When you do this, make sure that you have a steady stream that flows continuously. Once you’ve poured enough liquid into the bowl, you’ll want to add more until the bottom of the bowl is covered. You may need to repeat this step several times to get enough liquid into the bowl. When you’re satisfied that you’ve added enough liquid, set it aside for later.

Next, it’s time to get the water flowing through the tube. Start by removing the cap from the end of the water pipe. You may have to pry it open a bit, but once you do, it should come right out.

Next, fill a container with clean water. Then place your water pipe stem in the water and hold it firmly in place. Take the rubber band and attach it tightly around the water pipe stem. Finally, place the water pipe stem into the water filled bowl. This will help to fill the bowl faster and make sure that you have a steady flow of water coming from the tube.

Once this is finished, you should feel a continuous flow of water coming out of the tube. That means that you’re ready to put together your gravity bong!

To begin, place your coffee filter in front of the tube while keeping the other parts of the bong in place. Slowly pour the liquid into the water pipe until the whole bowl is full. Make sure that you keep filling the bowl until it reaches the rim of the tube, otherwise things could overflow.

Next, place the coffee filter over the end of the tube. With your funnel, slowly pour the liquid into the tube. You should notice a gentle drip coming out of the tube. Keep pouring the liquid until the filter is fully submerged in the liquid. When you’re satisfied that it’s all filled, grab the rubber band and tighten it around the water pipe stem. Put the filter in place and replace the cap on the water pipe stem. You can now enjoy your homemade gravity bong.

This setup is fairly self-explanatory and easy to assemble. However, if you would like to learn more about setting up a gravity bong, check out this article.
