The first use of a cannabis-derived medicine that is documented is dated back to 2737 BC when Sheng Nung a Chinese emperor used a cannabis-containing tea to aid ailments like memory, rheumatism, malaria, and gout. After that to alleviate the menstrual camos during her reign, Queen Victoria used CBD which ended in 1901.
Cannabis and its application were not known to people until 1839 when William B. O Shaughnessy published a study that talked about the therapeutic effects of CBD. He explored the rudimentary effects of cannabis and described its potential in medical applications as an anesthetic. The first discovery of cannabinoid as an individual was made by Robert S. Cahn who was a British chemist who reported a partial structure of Cannabinol who identified its full form in 1940.
After two years an American chemist by the name of Roger Adams made a successful history by discovering Cannabidiol and Tetrahydrocannabinol. During the initial stages of the research, only partial knowledge of the structure was known and the scientists had a partial understanding of the biological components within the plant. Due to this, the early developers and scientists did not have an accurate determination of the compound that had various effects on the body.
The first breakthrough was made by Dr. Raphael Mechoulam towards the understanding of the individual effects of cannabinoids in 1963. He researched and identified the accurate stereochemistry of CBD. Mecholam successfully discovered the stereochemistry of THC and revealed its direct relationship with the euphoric effects that it produces in the body. Under the controlled substances therapeutic research act of 1978 a new landmark occurred in New Mexico in which the medical value of cannabis was legally recognized. After this, a potential application of CBD for the treatment of diseases like epilepsy was studied and researched upon.
A potential breakthrough was observed when it was recognized that CBD had the potential to change the lives of more than 50 million people by curing epilepsy. The CBD reviews further confirmed the success of CBD in curing various ailments. Further research led to the discovery of additional cannabinoids and their structures. In 1996, proposition act 215 was passed making California the first state to legalize the use of medical marijuana. After 7 years, several other states followed this suit and legalized the use of CBD like Oregon, Maine, Hawaii, Nevada, Colorado, etc.
When the stigma towards the use of cannabis was shifted and people started to accept it still fell under the gray area of law and had a close relationship to the controversial plant. The distinction between CBD and other cannabinoids was popularized throughout the scientific community.
The stories of how the use of CBD has successfully provided relief from conditions like arthritis, insomnia, fibromyalgia, and many more have become quite popular. These stories are very natural and organic and people have started to become more accepting of the use of cannabis. They have started to realize the benefits of the use of CBD and it is being considered by various medical professionals for suggesting to their clients.
