Diabetes For The Gestational Woman

Emery

During one of my many adventures in weight loss, I found out I was pregnant. I had been on the high protein/low carbohydrate life style for a few months and had lost 5 lbs. when I found out I was pregnant. BINGO! Now I was able to eat what I wanted and not worry for 9 months since I was pregnant and that gave me the excuse to eat for two. Or did it?

Hello carbohydrates! I ended up on a pasta binge and gained the 5lbs I had lost in the first week of knowing I was pregnant. I was pregnant, after all. Who would notice? It’s all going to go to my baby, so what did it matter? Still eating for two!

It was time for my lovely 1 hour blood glucose test, fail! Now to repeat, on a 3 hours scale. Barely failed but failed nonetheless. To my horror, there is a condition called Gestational Diabetes. What in the world? I’m not diabetic. I’m 32 years old. But, apparently, you can be diabetic during pregnancy only so, why is everyone telling me to eat for two?

I was swiftly subjected to a nutrition class where they introduced me to what a real portion size looks like. Holy Cow .was this going to be hard. Hard for the regular person, double hard for the newly pregnant mamma.

Then, my worst nightmare (one of them) came true! I now have to poke a hole in myself 4 times a day. This was definitely not the way pregnancy has been explained to me. I had an entirely different picture in my head. And this was not the picture I was expecting. My picture had a smorgasbord of food and donuts and cheesecake, eating for two!

I am now required to watch my portions, and prick my finger (or wherever I could tolerate it) 4 times a day. Once in the morning to get my fasting blood sugar level, then 1 hour after meals. I had to keep a journal of what I ate and my readings. This would then be given to my doctor at each appointment. If I didn’t manage my diabetes through diet aloneΓǪ.then I would need medication to help. Thanks to sugar balance, a supplement medication for diabetes, I somehow have some help. This supplement helps to regulate my blood sugar naturally so my diabetes wont get any worse.

It was hard enough to not be able to eat what I wanted and give in to my rampant cravings, and now I had to take medication and put holes in my body every day.

They kept saying that the baby could be diabetic, really really big, or unhealthy when delivered. Now those were some depressing and scary things to look forward to–not that being pregnant doesn’t already pose some scary scenarios.

Needless to say, I lost weight on this portion control diabetic dietΓǪ.and only gained a total of 26 lbs. It was rough and a little depressing at the time. I also became an ice fiend. I was always thirsty. Always. I found myself going to any drive thru ordering just a cup of ice. I always offered to pay for the largest cup they had because they would give me a kiddie cup of ice if I didn’t specify.

But, why does the older generation think that when you are pregnant, it is ok to eat for two? I mean, yes there is another human growing inside you but, it doesn’t requiring as much food as you would eat for yourself. You may eat for 1.2ΓǪ.but not for two whole people. Technically, if you are eating 2000 calories, this would mean that you would be eating 4000 calories. Now, that is a lot of indulging. There are new guidelines for how much weight is healthy to eat/gain during pregnancy. I suggest looking in to it and changing your ways of thinking about pregnancy.

In the end….it ended up being a good thing for me. I now know what being diabetic means. I also know what a real portion looks like. And most importantly, my baby was only 6lbs 6oz. Phew!

Since I gained less than I would have normally, I had less to lose after baby. I was back to my pre-pregnancy weight in no time. Without having to work for it too! Yay ME!

Fusion Stair Parts By Richard Burbidge

Emery

Having purchased my first property just over two years ago I have been slowly making improvements to the house whilst making it more modern and trying to progress my DIY skills. For some time I have been intending to make a start on the internal stairs in the house, although I must admit I have been putting it off for months. The main reason that I delayed making a start was that I wasn’t convinced that I had the necessary skills to undertake the project just yet.

However, having pulled the carpet up and taken a closer look at the stairs, I found that most of them were sound and only a couple of them needed replacing. The biggest part of the job was going to be to fit the other stair parts. Fortunately, I spoke to a joiner friend of mine about the project before I started on it and he pointed me in the direction of the Richard Burbidge website. He had recently used their Fusion stair parts range for a house that he has bought as a rental property and said that it was very easy stuff to plan and fit. Great news for me!

The Fusion concept

The idea of Richard Burbidge’s Fusion is that you can select different stair parts from the available range and they should all fit nicely together. So you can, for example, choose from stair posts and handrails made from different timbers and metals, providing you with the finish that you require. However, each item is designed in a manner that will allow it to be fixed easily to the relevant stair parts. This is done through co-ordinating metal brackets using the best cheap impact driver, which enables stair posts to be fixed to handrails without the need for carpentry joints. There are also flexible fixing brackets that allow easy installation of the balusters.

Making a plan

I liked the idea of this kind of approach so I went and took a look at my friend’s property. I was very impressed with the overall quality of the stair parts that he had installed and the finish was superb. Of course, as a joiner, he has plenty of experience in this kind of work and I did wonder if I was going to be able to replicate the finish quality that he had achieved. The only problem that I had with my friend’s work was that I didn’t think that the choices he had made in terms of timber and color of metal components would suit my property and I voiced my concerns. He then told me that there was a planning tool on the Richard Burbidge website that lets you go through a selection process, picking the options that you think will suit. At the end of the process, you are presented with an actual photographic representation of the products that you have selected which enables you to find exactly the right option for you. I have used every other planning tools on company websites with varying success, but his tool was especially handy and after playing around for an hour or so I decided that I would go for a combination of pine and chrome stair parts.

Doing the fitting

Once I had bought the required parts I set aside a full weekend to undertake the installation. I have to say that the ease in which the pieces went together made things much simpler than I had expected. I didn’t have to worry about cutting anything or making good joints, which I could well have messed upon. In the end, I had to go out and take care of something unexpected on a Saturday, so I only spent about 5 hours of the day working on the stairs. This meant that I had to finish the job off on Sunday, but had I had the full day on Saturday then I may have got it all finished in one day. The overall finish of the project is very good and I was quite pleased with myself when I finished; but more importantly, my fianc© was also impressed! Definitely a product that I would recommend – especially if you aren’t the best at DIY like me. The website is also very useful and gives you all the information and help you need to make your choices.

What is an optical coating, and how to choose the best option?

Emery

An optical coating is used on bulbs, lenses, mirrors, and prisms. It is mainly used to block certain wavelengths of light. It is also beneficial for providing a highly reflective surface. As you can see, many optics and optical components are coated with a fine layer of material, and it modifies the light reflected from them. Well, this material is known as optical coating. You should also check some essential details related to this term to know it in a better way.

The optical coatings are used to enhance the transmission and polarization properties of an optical component. The optical coatings are divided into two categories, which are – protective and functional coatings. The protective coating type is used for the safety of optical elements or when a functional coating is needed. On the other hand, the functional type of coating is used on optical elements for providing the necessary reflective coefficient. In the below post, we are going to mention other important details related to Optical Coating.

Tips for the selection of best optical coating

As you know, the small changes in requirements can make a big impact on the performance of a system. It is important to take a lot of essential factors into consideration while choosing the thin-film coating. The different types of thin-film coatings are available on the market, but all of them are not the same. Before going to choose the best optical coating, you should pay attention to numerous factors which have been mentioned below.

  • Type of application

Before searching for a thin-film coating, you should determine your needs. It is also important to check the type of optical system which you are using. After considering this thing, you can easily find the right coating, which is suitable for the specifications and performance requirements of your optical system. Make sure the film coating is also suitable for your budget. It is also important to choose the film coating that is most economical for your application.

  • The right coating type

Many types of coating are out there, but you should pick the one that is suitable for the application that you have in mind. Always pick the right coating type as per your project and after considering some other important things. You can either choose the standard coating design or the custom one. As you read earlier, it is essential to check your application to ease up the selection process. Find the right coating type that suits your application.

  • Size of the part

If you are not checking the size of the parts of your system, then you can’t make the right choice. After determining the size, it becomes easy for the thin-film coating manufacturer to design and use the most efficient production method. Never ignore this aspect as it has great importance during the selection of the best optical coating.

  • Reflection characteristics

It is true that the optical coatings are designed on the basis of interference effects. The use of the optical coating can enhance transmission and reflection characteristics. You should always keep this thing in mind. Always choose the right type of coating as per the performance requirements of your optical system.

  • Pay attention to environmental conditions

Never forget to pay attention to the environmental conditions of the coating while choosing it. All you need to do is to consider the operating temperature of your system. After this, you should check whether the coating that you are going to choose is able to perform as expected or not. The thin-film coatings are durable, but their performance can degrade when they exposed to extreme temperature and humidity.

After taking all these tips in mind, you can easily choose the best optical coating to meet your requirements.

Conclusion

The optical coatings are designed for optical systems in order to perform for certain requirements. While looking for a coating, you should consider https://www.evaporatedcoatings.com/optical-coatings-for-glass-substrates/. You just need to mention the requirements of your optical system to optical engineers, and then they will provide you with the best options. Always try to choose the right coating as per your budget as well as other preferences.  Make sure you are picking the best coating option for your optical system.

Poor-man’s Guide to Hyper-Fitness

Emery

With space travel prices being in the range of $20 million for the layman and the average voyage distance not much farther than a round trip from L.A. to Santa Barbara, it seems that a manual for low budget travel into space is overdue. Equipped with some basic understanding of physics and the right means and disposition, most people can easily achieve the final frontier without rocket fuel and Cape Canaveral fanfare; all that is needed is a couple of household ingredients such as krople idealica, water and salt and less than the sum of money spent on a 3-day weekend cruise to Ensenada.

The first step in understanding how this may work involves going over some basic physics: moving a point traces a line, dragging a line creates a plane, and stacking a plane over itself more than once builds all three-dimensional objects. The brain’s sequential experience of the instances of these objects is the dimension of time; some scientists call this whole array: “the space-time continuum.” However, there are other dimensions that escape our regular senses; nonetheless, they have been proven to exist. For example, the hypercube is the object that exists in a “hyper” dimension (not to be confused with a dimension that needs Ritalin…), which is produced by folding 8 cubes in perfect right angles onto each other and is analogous to folding a 6-square cardboard cut-out to shape a 3-D cube. Regular astronauts use a lot of chemical power in order to create controlled combustion that propels them at high velocity through 3-D space from the ground upward into an orbit ranging from 100 to 300 miles above the earth. The hyperspace travel method that I have perfected uses chemicals already in the brain (emphasis on “already in”, as opposed to “added to”) and a controlled environment in order to awaken the senses that can perceive some of these latent dimensions and allow the hyper-sailor to move “backward,” a measureless distance.

The next item due in the agenda is to coin a term for this type of space travel practitioner (this step is mentioned for information purposes only and not to be repeated). Since there are no rules stipulating this convention and most of the time a combination of Latin or Greek terms is used for these types of titles, I shall name the new travelers “palinauts,” from the Greek “Palin,” meaning “backward” and “natures,” meaning “sailor”. This is not just a sophisticated way of saying “backward sailor,” but rather a duplication of the process used to create the word “astronaut” and its Russian counterpart, the “cosmonaut.”

The travel vessel that I recommend for this endeavor is an enclosed or hooded bathtub-like fixture that is half-filled with salt-saturated water, thus endowing its user with effortless buoyancy. The overall inside temperature matches that of the human body, and total isolation from light and sound is procured. These tanks are nicknamed “Samadhi tanks” which means “tanks for higher levels of concentration” or sensory deprivation tanks. The point here is to shut down the day to day senses and to allow the “other” senses inside the brain to “phone home.”

Given that in our society it all comes down to money, I must consider a budget for the average palinaut. Consistent with most modes of transportation, the tank can be rented or straight out purchased. The best way to judge a preference in this regard is by deciding the degree of hyperspace travel frequency desired. For the casual palinaut, rentals are available as close as Beverly Hills, West L.A. and Santa Monica, and they range from $150 to $200 per hour, and for the more serious advocate, purchasing may cost up to $10,000 including installation. Protective clothing is free of charge; the only requirement is what nature provides at birth. Optionally, a small neoprene floating mat supporting the back of the head will prevent any possible neck discomfort.

I should indicate some basic constrains: this type of hyperspace travel is not for anyone who is fidgety, especially people with Hyper Leg Syndrome or any other type of hyper twitching. Claustrophobia is another major reason for disqualification, and so is the fear of the dark. I recommend abstaining from caffeine or being under any kind of influence, for at least 24 hours prior to “take-off”. A light meal and drinking water a few hours in advance is fine; unlike astronauts, palinauts do not carry diapers, and thirst, a hungry stomach or a dire call of nature can minimize the scope of the experience. Being a palinaut requires fit mental condition, given that this is not about achieving a brain-dead state; contrarily, “hyper-space” travel illuminates and enhances the experience of the self. For the best results, the palinaut must spend about 2 hours in the tank.

Once inside the tank, the first thing to expect is the awe of utter darkness and silence. Subsequently, the pumping of the heart, the hissing of the breath, the circulation of the blood, and any other body noise are greatly amplified. My take on this is that the brain is habitually scanning for input, and it will find it anywhere it can. The main goal at this stage is to find a focal point and to relax. Given that the eyes cannot see anything, I suggest following the respiration and purposely slowing it down; a method that accomplishes a twofold target: the soothing of the mind and the required concentration. Inhalations are conducted by an upward rolling expansion of the abdomen while counting thirty seconds, or considerably slow until the lungs feel totally packed; then air is held as long as possible without getting dizzy and exhaled in an exceedingly slow fashion, and a final and powerful chest muscle contraction will push out any remaining CO2 from the lungs. This sequence is to be repeated through the session; usually, after 15 minutes of concentration, it becomes effortless.

The next thing to tackle, and probably one of the hardest, is to put a leash on the “little thinking monkey” in the brain. This little guy or girl, depending on the case, will ask many questions, tell stories, bring back memories, suggest urgent things to do, even show movies. During this stage, I have often reviewed namely “The Matrix” (usually the part I), “The 5th Element” and “Johnny Mnemonic” in random, forward, and backward scene sequence modes. Not to worry, the more vivid the images become, the closer the final destination is. By the time this thought wandering is under control, and if the breathing rhythm is still going on as mentioned above, the brain usually goes into a state of striking and thoughtless protoplasmic awareness. This is totally different from every night sleep. In this total relaxation, with the vessel (the tank) and the spacesuit (the body) in auto-pilot, the essential feeling of consciousness emerges from the physical body; therefore, the mind surpasses the 3-D boundaries, and it tethers to life by the smallest particle or vibration required by the space-time continuum.

The intercepting dimension appears as a gash of vivid light, which can be described as a point of brightness in a distant horizon that replaces the optical darkness. Motion in this hyper-space is acquired by intent, and getting from point A to point B is instant; no legs or machinery are necessary. By peering further into the gap, the other dimension moves closer and becomes brighter and brighter. Lots of twinkling, tiny, floating lights merge into one mind-boggling, all-encompassing brightness. The perception of time slows down to the point where each moment is acknowledged by the mind before its creation.

By pulling on the “life tether”, the mind comes back to the 3-D space-time continuum; it takes about two or three seconds for a complete “landing.” At this point, and depending on schedule, a 5 to 10 minute readjustment period is advisable. I have encountered that this “hyper-orbiting” gets better every time it is repeated. I have not yet discovered extra-dimensional life other than my own, but the feeling of belonging to an omnipresent mind is overwhelming. I have always felt totally renewed by this experience, the same mind-body effect I get from a three-week island vacation. It may take many decades for the average Joe and the average Jane to be able to afford a trip into earth’s orbit, but in the meantime, most people can enjoy the essence of space travel experience with this simple process. G forces are not included, and results may vary from person to person.

Don’t Spy – Kids Need Privacy, Too

Emery

Children start out so dependent on parents that it’s easy for parents to think of their children as extensions of themselves. No one worries about a baby’s privacy or a toddler’s sanctuary. Little children want to be with their parents. It’s a world where everything is shared, from nap time to meal time to tub time.

So it comes as a bit of a shock to parents when children get older and start demanding privacy. “Don’t come in my room!” “Don’t read my diary!” “This is a private conversation!” Parents tend to rebut, “It’s my house.” It’s an old battle between parents and kids with the modern twist of electronic gadgets to increase surveillance or block prying parents.

Even though it can be tempting, it’s generally not a good idea to spy on children. Parents expect trust from their children. Parents should be willing to give trust in return. Parents model the behavior they want to see in their children and teenagers. As kids grow older and demonstrate responsibility, more independence should be given.

Suspicion that a child or teenager is doing something dangerous is the often cited reason for parental espionage. A parent should investigate a reasonable concern – that’s part of a parent’s job. Questions which begin with how, when, where, who and what are part of every good parent’s repertoire. The problem is spying when a child has given no reason for distrust. A parent’s idle curiosity is not a good enough reason to read a journal entry or rifle through a sock drawer.

Adults expect a certain level of privacy in their lives. Most adults would be incensed to learn a neighbor has been reading their mail or an agency has wiretapped their telephones. Adults don’t expect their spouses to follow them to check on their whereabouts. Most people don’t like to deal with a snoop. Yet parents will do these things to children and teenagers who have done nothing to deserve the scrutiny.

Kids are warned about losing the trust of their parents. What happens when a parent loses a child’s trust? Parents who give their kids no breathing room will pass that cynical nature on to their children. Instead of feeling like Mom or Dad is an ally, the spied upon teenager will try to hide even ordinary behavior.

Parents need to remember that the goal is for children to grow into independent adults. That means kids need to learn to think for themselves. They need space to form their own ideas and even to make mistakes. It’s hard to “be yourself” when someone is watching every move. Respecting kids’ privacy creates an environment where kids feel safe so they can open up to their parents when the kids are ready to share.

This might sound idealistic but so far it has worked with my kids. My kids (two children, one teenager) know that we will inspect their rooms or monitor their Internet usage if they give us a legitimate cause. Usually, every family member enjoys the same amount of respect for personal items and personal space. Spying on one another is not allowed. I would give examples, but I’m respecting my kids’ privacy!

So instead of invading their privacy, why not just treat them with a coupon from takethecoupon.com. Your kids need privacy as well and as a parent, you need to understand that they also have their own needs when it comes to their personal life.

Causes and Treatments of Sleeplessness

Emery

Sleeplessness is an exhausting problem that can affect every facet of life and cause concentration problems. Many people find they are consumed with finding a cure and all their thoughts center around the problem. Identifying the type of insomnia is very important when searching for the correct type of treatment.

What is Insomnia

According to Dr. Sandra Cabot, co-author of Tired of not Sleeping, there are several subcategories of insomnia as listed below:

Temporary insomnia:

This normally lasts for a week or so and may be caused by jetlag or lifestyle changes.

Short-term insomnia:

Sleep is disturbed over a period of several months. This may be caused by a stressful event such as divorce or a death in the family.

Chronic insomnia:

This is a long-term problem with sleep quantity and quality affected.

Secondary insomnia:

This is caused by physical factors such as pain or drugs usage.        Primary insomnia: This includes conditions like sleep apnea.

Idiopathic insomnia:

No cause is apparent even after investigation.

Pseudo insomnia:

This often affects older people. They believe they have insomnia but are actually getting enough sleep.

Understanding Normal Sleep Patterns

Sleep is a variable process that cycles through slow waves and rapid eye movement (REM) stages. During the slow waves of sleep, brain activity slows down allowing deep restoration and rest. During REM sleep the brain is more active and dreams occur. A cycle of slow waves and REM sleep usually lasts for 90 to 120 minutes with four to five cycles per night. Sleep allows the body and all its systems to relax and recover from the rigors of daily life.

This is an important part that keeps the organs going and the body gets its dosage of vitality and agility for the next day which is similar to the charging of a mobile phone or laptop. This cycle has to be followed forever to keep insomnia at bay and do read resurge reviews on a regular basis to get tips.

What Causes Insomnia

People need varying amounts of sleep at different stages of their lives. Babies need 16 to 20 hours per day, teenagers nine hours and adults seven to eight hours. Those over sleep less and need about six and a half hours. Here are some of the common causes of insomnia:

ageing    depression    allergies    pain    incorrect mattress/pillow    jetlag    lack of sex    worry    medical problems and illness    stress and trauma    bedroom that is too hot/light/noisy    too much caffeine    nightmares    pets on the bed

Methods of Relieving Insomnia

Here is a list of simple remedies that have helped many people over the years. If the problem persists, it is essential to seek medical help to overcome it.

Have a warm bath an hour or two before bedtime.    Do not eat a large meal within three hours of going to bed. Small, easily digested snacks are acceptable.    Avoid harsh fluorescent lights and action-packed television shows before bedtime.    Eat foods that are natural sources of melatonin (the sleep hormone). These include tart cherries, walnuts, fever few and oats.    Doctors can prescribe melatonin supplements as well as sleeping tablets and may refer a patient to a sleep clinic to obtain specialized help.

Insomnia can be a wearisome problem that causes exhaustion and irritability as well as impaired functioning in daily life. In the vast majority of cases, help is available and with perseverance, lifestyles can be changed to bring about permanent relief.

Computer Service- Welcome Step for the Benefit of Software Industry

Emery

We have always been taught to always listen to the advice of elders because they are our well wishers that have our best interest at heart but the younger generation turn a deaf ear to it and does whatever it pleases.

What is important is that listening to elders is a practice long gone as the present age is all conceited attitude, booze, disrespecting parents, hanging out with friends, live in relationships and so on.

Some may argue with contradictory examples but the condition is similar in almost every part of the world and western countries anyhow were never considered as a role model when it came to children expressing gratitude for their elders as that honor still goes to Asian countries with India being the most prominent of all.

Few Pointers

One reason why this is so is because the youth brigade has become arrogant because it is the so called educated lot that calls the shots in the wider world and if you are a software engineer then you can be sure that the big time teachers and experts will start eating out of your hand.

Leaving that argument aside, establishing your credentials in a field as complex and diverse as software is not mean task and those that do so have established a domain for themselves in the world where the common man worships them.

Computers are virtual lifelines for the entire world and it is impossible to imagine life without software gadgets as it has taken over the industry by storm and one that refuses to die down.

It is quite easy to come across a software expert in the neighborhood because social media has made it much easier to gain access to such people because it is quite important for beginners to have atleast basic knowledge about computers before going ahead with the repairing process.

Guide to Success

People who have just started out on this topic need not worry as they can get help from all sides whether it is from friends and family, online classes and even a little coaching after college will not go waste either.

Youngsters might find it easy to go for coaching with friends because there will be a comfort level among peers where they can help each other out with regards to knowledge gaining.

For repairing, you can try by looking up malware online or start with repairing normal gadgets at house like household appliances or even the electricity problem which is a good way to begin.

Tips for Computer Repairing:

  1. Once you gain experience through coaching, you can start by reinstalling the operating system in your PC with the latest updates
  2. The next step is to remove virus and malware that is outdated because the unnecessary files make troubleshooting difficult
  3. Always keep an HP laptop technician with you in the initial stages who can help you out with a few pointers because you are bound to make mistakes
  4. Conduct online researches and regularly watch YouTube videos related to computer repairing

Do Passengers on the Airport Shuttle Buses to RAF Lakenheath and RAF Mildenhall Have to Pay?

Emery

Only military ID card holders such as active duty and their dependents, retirees and their dependents, DoD contractors and other categories of passengers are entitled to ride on the airport shuttle buses that run daily (except 25/26 December) between London-Gatwick and London-Heathrow to RAF Lakenheath and RAF Mildenhall. All passengers will need to present their ID card to the bus driver before they can board the bus. But do passengers have to pay for travel?

Official Duty Passengers

Official duty passengers who are on officially funded government orders have top priority when it comes to riding on the military airport shuttle to RAF Lakenheath and RAF Mildenhall. These include PCS (Permanent Change of Station), TDY (Temporary Duty), ERD (Early Return of Dependent), student travel, AAFES employees, DoD contractors and others who are on official orders. Effective 16 August 2008, official duty passengers must pay ú50 per passenger each way. The preferred method of payment is GTC, VISA, Mastercard or British pounds, payable in cash at the start of the journey. Official duty passengers and their family members will be reimbursed the cost that they incur when riding the airport shuttle bus when they file their travel voucher.

Emergency Leave Passengers

Emergency leave is a trying time for families and is often taken when a close family member has died. Unfortunately, emergency leave passengers who make use of the airport shuttle buses must pay for their travel expenses and are not authorised reimbursement for ground transportation to and from London-Gatwick and London-Heathrow. This is in accordance with JFTR U7205. It is also important to bear in mind that if you are on emergency leave that you will be on a Space Available basis and will not be considered top priority to ride the airport shuttle bus.

Other Space A (Available) Passengers

Space A (Available) passengers (active duty on leave, retirees and civilian employees not on official orders) can ride the airport shuttle buses free of charge as long as there is space available on the buses on the day of travel. While Space Available passengers do not have to pay to ride the airport shuttle buses, they run the risk of being asked to give up their seat if there are many passengers on official orders waiting to board the bus. It is really necessary to know if you have to pay for your fare on these transportation services so you can avoid expensive car services such as the aspen limo. Hence, before going to the airport or leaving home, make sure to check everything first about your transportation.

Although official duty passengers have had to pay for travel since 16 August 2008, the travel costs incurred are reimbursed. Emergency leave passengers also pay for travel, but they are not reimbursed. Space Available passengers can travel for free as long as there is room available for them on the buses.

Helping an Elderly Loved One After Leaving the Hospital

Emery

A hospital stay can be a traumatic event. Helping an elderly loved one adjust to being back home after a hospital stay will help both their mental and physical condition.

Think Ahead

Returning home after hospitalization may be unsettling to an elderly loved one. Leave Me Alone- I’m Lonely

During hospitalization, a patient is cared for 24/7 by an entire team of healthcare providers. Add in the parade of visitors and your loved one will either be exhausted or lonely upon arriving back home. Give your elderly loved one a little space so they can settle back into their familiar surroundings. Ask them if they need some much-missed solitude or would prefer a constant company. Although physical healing is the goal of hospital stay, emotional and mental healing is needed as well upon returning home. Offer support and space as needed.

Adapt

The condition that required hospital stay may also require some adaptation at home. Take some time during the first couple of days to work with your loved on to adapt their home to meet any new needs the may have. Sometimes it’s helpful if the furniture is rearranged to make getting around a bit easier. Even something as simple as moving a phone closer to the place where your loved one normally sits can be helpful. Maybe the changes will be more major such as signing up for a meal delivery program or hiring a landscaping company to mow the grass. Remember though, this is not your home it is your loved ones, so work with them to make the changes they need, in a manner they can live with.

Step in as Secretary

As people get older, many start to have problems keeping their finances straight. With automatic bill pay, constant credit card application, and scammer on the loose, the elderly are seen as easy targets for fraud. With your loved one’s permission, sit down and work through their finances to make sure their obligations are being met. This will also aid in paying any bills for the recent hospital stay as you will be aware of how their finances are and can help them stay on track or apply for aid if need be. Explain to your loved one that you want to help them with this task, as their primary job is to get settled in at home and get better.

Create a Safety Net

The transition out of a hospital and into either a skilled nursing facility or their family home really requires a strong safety net of supportive friends and family. This safety net is needed to make sure any medication or rehab schedule if being followed, to make sure the living area is clean, to make sure bills are paid, to protect against scammers and most of all to provide love and support. A hospital stay is a direct confrontation with mortality and it can leave most people feeling vulnerable. Make sure your elderly loved one has plenty of caring people to help bolster his or her emotional well-being as well as physical.

Helping an elderly loved one adjust after a hospitalization can be challenging at times. Many seniors are set in their ways and can get upset at having to deal with any changes. It’s not uncommon for hospitalization to bring on a bout of depression. By being supportive, and helping your loved one make agreed-upon adjustments to their home and lifestyle, you can ensure their safety and well-being as they transition from hospital to home.
